Information for settings and populations

Auseinet has just added the first of a new series of information packages to the Resources section of the website -
'Settings and Populations: Mental Health Promotion and Illness Prevention'.

The first package of information collates 'what we know' about the evidence, rationale, policies, good practice and resources for school settings, and is available now.

Further population groups and settings will be added to this section over time.

Auseinet response to the 'Revised National Standards for Mental Health Services'

In reviewing the Revised National Standards for Mental Health Services (MHS) Auseinet is concerned about the absence of some fundamental principles, theoretical underpinnings and approaches as outlined in the National Mental Health Plan 2003-2008.

Briefly our concerns are:
- there appears to be no evidence in the Revised Standards that a population health framework is being adopted;
- the absence of a Standard on mental health promotion and prevention of mental disorder;
- lack of focus on early intervention;
- lack of focus on stigma reduction and community attitudes; and
- Criteria and Implementation Notes for the Standard concerning recovery do not reflect current national policy in this area.
