Transforming Australia for our children's future: making prevention work. ARACY conference 2009 |
Melbourne, Australia
2 September 2009 |
|
2 September 2009
to 4 September 2009
Melbourne
Australia
While Australia's economic and technological progress has been strong over recent decades, this has not resulted in significant improvements to the health and wellbeing of our young people. There is growing recognition that prevention is the most effective approach to addressing the problems affecting young people. The challenge is to make the radical shift to a preventive orientation, and to apply knowledge in specific social and political contexts.
The conference aims to build links between international and national experts, researchers, policy makers, practitioners, social entrepreneurs, marketers, business and financiers. It will explore pathways to success, and showcase preventive innovations that are improving the lives of children and young people.

35th international conference of the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses: mind to care |
Sydney, Australia
29 September 2009 |
|
29 September 2009
to 2 October 2009
Sydney
Australia
Mind to Care is about the recipient, the giver, the process, a mindful call, the world we live in and our stewardship of it. It’s about people and personhood - our understanding of the personal, biological, psychological, social and spiritual assets of the mind.
We should take more care, nurture it, treasure it in health, and help others recover it in illness. The mind is our greatest gift, it is our lens - we use it to view the past, to live and explain the present, and envision our future. Whether on an individual, social or ecological level, it is the means by which we resolve and reform tomorrow's world, which our grandchildren inherit. Will it be a meaningful and prosperous one for all? What of our role? Do we have the means, the will, the voice, the Mind to Care.

2009 AHHA congress - shaping up in health - how does Australia become the world's best? |
Hobart, Tasmania, Australia
7 October 2009 |
|
7 October 2009
to 9 October 2009
Hobart, Tasmania
Australia
These are the big issues for health service policy-makers, which we will discuss at this year's congress. Have we got the best tools, protocols and strategies to deliver safe and effective services? Do we create a culture of improvement and innovation? Do we adapt well to demographic change, technological developments or variations in disease patterns? Do we optimise our health workforce and support our providers appropriately? Do we include our consumers in their care and the community in decisions about system reform? Do we effectively monitor the quality and effectiveness of our services? Do we use existing data and knowledge to maximum effect in understanding the performance of our health system?

Health impact assessment 09: on the move |
Rotterdam, Netherlands
14 October 2009 |
|
14 October 2009
to 16 October 2009
Rotterdam
Netherlands
Health impact assessment is a way to identify how policies, programmes and projects from non-health sectors influence the health of a population. Since health impact assessment includes looking at the distribution of the health impacts over different population groups it is also a helpful tool to help reduce health inequalities.
We will discuss matters such as:
- how to move health higher up on the policy agendas
- how to move on from incidental HIA's to institutionalization

2nd Siblings Australia conference: creating connections |
Adelaide, Australia
18 November 2009 |
|
18 November 2009
to 20 November 2009
Adelaide
Australia
Evidence shows that siblings of children with special needs can grow up in situations of considerable stress. Without the emotional and cognitive maturity to cope with their experiences and mixed feelings, these siblings can be at risk of developing long term emotional and mental health problems. There can be joys, but many siblings also talk of ongoing isolation, of having no-one with whom they can share their very real feelings of grief, resentment, guilt or fear. However, with support, siblings are more able to reach their own potential, whilst at the same time also contribute to the quality of life of the child with special needs.

From GDP to wellbeing: economics on the road to sustainability |
Ancona, Italy
3 December 2009 |
|
3 December 2009
to 5 December 2009
Ancona
Italy
In the last decades, several Countries and International Organizations questioned the divergence between economic growth and wellbeing improvements. Empirical studies pointed out that income growth does not imply an increase in the quality of life and wellbeing enhancements. Economies are growing while social and income inequalities keep rising with new poverties and social exclusions.
This conference is aimed at challenging the discussion on wellbeing measurement at a macro and micro level, with a focus on policy implications of GDP versus alternative measures. Sessions are devoted to wellbeing measurement, limits to growth and sustainability and policy implications.
