Reporting Suicide and Mental Illness: A Resource for Media Professionals
Produced with assistance from media professionals, media peak bodies, suicide and mental health experts, consumer organisations, and the Commonwealth Government. The resource provides comprehensive information about issues to consider towards accurate and sensitive reporting of mental illness and suicide.

National Action Plan for Promotion, Prevention & Early Intervention for Mental Health (Action Plan 2000)
This document supersedes the Mental Health Promotion and Prevention National Action Plan that was released in 1999. It incorporates feedback from users of that first document, and expands its content to include early intervention. This current document also has a companion document entitled Promotion, Prevention and Early Intervention for Mental Health: A Monograph which sets out the theoretical and conceptual framework and discusses in more detail a number of issues relevant to its implementation.

Promotion, Prevention and Early Intervention for Mental Health: A Monograph (Monograph 2000)
Developed by the National Mental Health Promotion and Prevention Working Party, this document provides the theoretical and conceptual foundation for the National Action Plan for Promotion, Prevention and Early Intervention for Mental Health and discusses in more detail a number of issues relevant to its implementation.
Ongoing feedback on the Action Plan and the Monograph is welcomed from individuals and organisations with an interest in promotion, prevention and early intervention for mental health.
Also available for download is a Slide presentation by Dr Debra Rickwood outlining the key points of the Action Plan and Monograph including background, priorities, evidence base, key strategic sectors, risk and protective factors and progress.

National Mental Health Plan 2003 - 2008
The National Mental Health Plan 2003-2008 consolidates the achievements of the First and Second Plans, addresses gaps identified in both, and takes the National Mental Health Strategy forward with restated and new directions. It can be viewed as an ongoing agenda for service and community development that sets priorities for 2003-2008. It represents a partnership between the key stakeholders in mental health.

Living is For Everyone: A framework for prevention of suicide in Australia
The revised 2008 Living
is For Everyone framework provides updated information for mental health
professionals and the wider community to enhance the understanding and
prevention of suicide and self harm in Australia. It is an updated version of
the first LIFE framework and incorporates the latest national and international
research into suicide prevention.
Framework for the Implementation of the National Mental Health Plan 2003-2008 in Multicultural Australia
The Framework complements the National Mental Health Plan by focusing on the specific needs of Australia's multicultural community. It provides strategies for all government and nongovernment organisations, across the health and community sectors, to meet nationally accepted standards of service delivery and workforce practice in the provision of culturally competent and appropriate services.

Promoting Mental Health: Concepts, emerging evidence, practice
Like health promotion, mental health promotion involves actions that allow people to adopt and maintain healthy lifestyles and create living conditions and environments that support health. This book (from the World Health Organisation, 2004) describes the concepts relating to promotion of mental health, the emerging evidence for effectiveness of interventions and the public health policy and practice implications.

Prevention of Mental Disorders: Effective interventions and policy options. A summary report
This summary report from the World Health Organisation offers an overview of international evidence-based programs and policies for preventing mental and behavioural disorders. It describes the concepts relating to prevention, the relationship between prevention and mental health promotion, individual, social and environmental determinants of mental disorders and the implications for public health policy and practice.
